Meet the Team

We have come so far with you and we have grown to know many of you and shared many experiences, some sad, some poignant but mostly happy. We have saved lives, helped keep the pet population under control, made friends and found homes for uncountable stray kittens and dogs. We hope, with your help, to continue making memories and providing you with great service for many years to come.

Dr Nicky Zimmermann

Dr Zimmermann qualified in 1990, where she left Onderstepoort to locum before joining the Animal Anti-Cruelty League in Roslyn. After working there for a year, Nicky bought her first practice in Akasia, north of Pretoria, in 1993. There she built up her one man practice, and after 5 successful years she sold the practice and moved to Midrand where she and her husband, Dr Guy Fyvie, bought Midrand Vet in 1998. Her love for the health and wellbeing of our furry companions has made the practice the success that it is today. With many years of experience under her belt, you can rest assured that your furkids are well taken care of.

Dr Anne-Marth Mullins

Dr Anne-Marth Mullins qualified as a veterinarian in 2015 from Onderstepoort. She was part of the first group of veterinarians that completed their compulsory community service, which she did in Hammanskraal. In 2017 she completed a rotating small animal internship at The University of Pretoria, Onderstepoort. She started to locum and you will see her on a more permanent basis at Midrand Veterinary Hospital. She is the proud mom of three furkids (Quinn, Jack and Chloe). They like to go for long (5km) walks over the weekends. She does a bit of arts and crafts to keep the creative juices flowing, and likes spending time with her close friends. She is passionate about primary animal health care but also enjoys more complicated medical cases as well as a surgery here and there. She treats her patients as if they were her own.

Lauren Beckley

Our practice manager Lauren started at the practice in 2011, where she has built up close relationships with all our clients and their pets over the years. Lauren’s love for animals started from a very young age, bringing home every stray she found along the way, and hand raising copious amount of kittens. After travelling the world after school, she went on to study equine science, but an opportunity to be the practice manager at a specialist vet practice in Pretoria arose. She worked there for 3 years, gaining a lot of experience in the veterinary industry before moving to Midrand Vet. She has a great love for all things primate, and is a permitted wildlife rehabber who has a passion for fostering orphaned baby baboons and vervet monkeys. Lauren is extremely knowledgeable and is always willing to share what she knows and help others where she can.

Barbara Kohout

After many years in the corporate world, Barbara retired, but still wanted to keep busy. She joined our team in 2015 as a receptionist, and she is lovingly referred to as the crazy cat lady. Barbara enjoys keeping all our little feral kittens company and helping them to find their forever homes.

Simon Gama

Simon is our head kennel man, and somewhat of an institution at Midrand Vet. Simon has been here since 1994. He is a wealth of knowledge and extremely experienced in caring for all our patients. There’s never a dull moment with Simon around, as all our clients know, he is not short of a joke and a smile!

Jimson Shaba

Jimson is the newest member of our team, he has experience with large animal husbandry and would now like to broaden his knowledge. Jimson has a passion for all animals, and this is evident in the way he handles our patients and how they respond to him.

Dinah Phiri

Dinah joined the Midrand Vet team is 1998, working half day, ensuring that our practice is always clean and tidy. Dinah also has a great fondness for animals and is always on hand to jump in and help where necessary. She also makes a mean cup of coffee!
